Dr. Robert CJ Krasner ’67 earned his MD at the University of Maryland in 1971. Thereafter, he combined distinction in the practice of medicine with a career in public service. His duties in the Navy Medical Corps brought him around the world, from postings in Ethiopia to Sardinia to England. In 1990, Dr. Krasner attained the rank of Rear Admiral. That year, he also assumed the directorship in the Office of Attending Physician to the U.S. Congress. Dr. Krasner has interacted with world figures ranging from Nelson Mandela to Queen Elizabeth II, while attending to leaders in all branches of U.S. government, including Speaker of the House Thomas “Tip” O’Neill, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall. At Lafayette College, Dr. Krasner majored in both history and literature. He affirms that a rigorous liberal arts education prepared him well for exercising leadership in the armed services, federal government, the practice of medicine, and academic life.
