Join us on Wednesday 27th March 2019 at 4:10pm in Kirby Hall of Civil Rights 104 for this lecture “Not One Step Back: Nazis, Gulags and Grad School” by alum Susan Grunewald’11. The event is sponsored by our History Honor Society Phi Alpha Theta.
Susan Grunewald will discuss her experiences researching German prisoners of war in the Soviet Union from 1941 to 1956. Her dissertation examines members of the former Nazi army who remained in Soviet forced labor camps for 11 years after the end of World War II. She will discuss the main arguments of her research, ultimately that the Soviet government mobilized them for postwar reconstruction, as well as the process of earning a graduate degree in history, researching in former Soviet archives, and GIS digital mapping.
