This week, we checked in with Joshua Sanborn to hear about his experience so far completing his wiriting fellowship in Europe.

“I’m at the Imre Kertész Kolleg (a research institute focused on Eastern Europe) at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. I’m spending my time here working on a cultural history of the Soviet Union and the United States in the Cold War, with special attention to spies, scientists and the adventure fiction that helped structure their respective world views. This is a writing fellowship, and I’m hard at work drafting as much of the manuscript as I can before I return to Easton in June. I’m also going to be presenting aspects of this project to various audiences in Europe, with one talk in Ireland and four here in Germany (Jena, Freiburg, Dresden, and Regensburg). Weekend trips to Cold War sites (such as Prague, Berlin, and Nuremberg) is also on the agenda!” – Joshua Sanborn
