Jonathan Alerhand ’07 is a senior research analyst for an investment firm that allocates capital to alternative investment funds. He found his history classes, particularly those taught by Professor Paul Barclay on East Asia, to be particularly useful and rewarding as part of his international affairs major. Critical thinking, writing clearly and reading thoroughly were among the beneficial skills that he acquired through these classes. The abilities and lessons instilled in Jonathan help him on a daily basis whether it is reading fund documents, examining footnotes to audited financial statements or determining the motivation and biases in letters written by fund managers. Jonathan’s history classes helped instill a rigorous work ethic in him while making him more curious and detailed when he reads for work or pleasure.
