What can food tell us about the past? In this writing-intensive history course, we will consider this question by focusing on two main themes: (1) the business and politics of food production and consumption; and (2) the links between cookbooks, identity, and memory. Like the foods we will discuss, our analysis will traverse the Americas. Students will write and present a research paper that uses one or more cookbooks from this region as primary sources.
